Obtaining Services
Students with a disability may be eligible to receive reasonable and appropriate accommodations through Disability Services. If you need accommodations, please apply for services as soon as possible or at least two months before registering for classes so that your application can be processed. Students requesting accommodations and services must follow the process listed below:
- If student has not previously applied for admission to Laredo College, please click on this link and follow the Getting Started steps
- Complete a Disability Services Application and submit supporting documentation to lcds@laredo.edu or in-person to the Kazen Student Center (Ft. McIntosh Campus) room 132. Some examples of documentation accepted include diagnostic testing and reports from physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, school districts, and from agencies such as the Texas Workforce Solutions Vocational Rehabilitation Services (TWS-VRS). For guidance or if supporting documentation is not available, please call Special Services at (956)721-5137.
- The Disability Services Counselor will review the documentation submitted and determine whether the student meets program eligibility criteria. After the information has been reviewed, the student will be contacted and given an appointment to meet with the Disability Services Counselor to discuss eligibility. Once program eligibility criteria is met, the student and the Counselor will discuss accommodations and support services that are reasonable and appropriate.
- After accommodations have been reviewed with the Disability Services Counselor, the student must complete an Accommodation Request form for the semester they are enrolling in.
- Once the Accommodation Request Form has been received, the Counselor will email the instructor and the student an accommodation letter for each course.
- After the student’s first semester at Laredo College with accommodations, if the student wants to continue to receive the same accommodations or make changes, the student must submit an Accommodation Request form to renew accommodations each semester. If the student wants to change accommodations, the student will need to make an appointment to meet with the Disability Services Counselor before accommodation letters can be prepared.
Students with disabilities attending Laredo College are responsible for self-identifying to Disability Services and for completing the above steps.
